Through civic engagement case studies exemplifying both successes and failures, the session provides insights into overcoming political stakeholder barriers, and effective engagement techniques and management tools for building constituencies for action.

The panelists speak about principles and practices directly applicable to adaptive management of community water resources and explore innovative civic engagement processes and tools that are transparent, informative, empowering and build a common understanding among disparate groups.

Moderator Anne Lewis, President of America’s Waterway, discusses the complexities and solutions for management of community water resources.  She hosts an expert panel:

  • Robyn Colosimo advises the Director for Natural Resources, Chief of Staff, and Chairman of the Council on Envrionmental Quality (CEQ), the Vice President, and the President on a diverse set of water resources matters.
  • Dr. Carolyn J. Lukensmeyer, Founder and President of AmericaSpeaks. Under Carolyn’s leadership, AmericaSpeaks has earned a national reputation as a leader in the field of deliberative democracy and democratic renewal. Prior to founding AmericaSpeaks, Carolyn served as Consultant to the White House Chief from 1993-1994.
  • Tim Bonnemann, founder and CEO of Intellitics, Inc. Tim’s career has been spent enabling national and international communities online. He is an active member and volunteer to both the International Association for Public Participation and the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation
