GSA’s 2011 Green Building Priorities

The General Services Administration owns or operates nearly 500,000 buildings. As GSA moves from concept to implementation of its recent Green Building initiatives, opportunities are rapidly opening up in a variety of real estate, construction and building modification business areas.

EO13514 Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance issued less than a year ago has pushed GSA to the forefront of the Green Building revolution. GSA tops government spending on Green Building.  Both small and larger businesses stand to benefit with the right services and the right products. The landscape is changing quickly with new technologies and standardization of sustainable practices which require that business stay on the cutting edge to be competitive.

Karla Perri,Principal at  The Spectrum Group, co-manages the homeland security division and works on varied energy, environmental and biodefense issues at Spectrum.  Karla previously served as Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Environment, and moderates a panel of public and and private sector leaders in Green Building:

  • Kevin Kampschroer, Director, Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings, GSA, has been leading GSA’s activities in response to the 2005 and 2007 Energy Bills & Executive Order on the Environment, Sustainability & Energy Conservation. He is creating a new Office within GSA intended to consolidate and coordinate Federal efforts in the broad realm of building sustainability, influence and accelerate industry capability and adoption of sustainable principles.
  • Darlene Pope is Managing Director at Consolidated Green Services (CGS), a full-service integrator focusing on energy efficient, intelligent building technologies for buildings. Prior to joining CGS, Ms. Pope was Co-Founder and Principal of CoR Advisors, an independent consulting firm specializing in research and education of technology solutions for buildings.
  • Bob Wassmann, Senior Manager, Noblis, is responsible for Noblis’ greening the government initiative as well as leading the corporations’ internal green initiative. He has worked extensively with the Office of the Secretary of Defense supporting the development of the first DoD Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan and developing the GSA Carbon Footprint tool.
