The July 10th webinar in SSF’s Renewable Energy on Institutional Property series focused on technologies and successful paradigms for long-term energy management. The session is packed with usable information important to those responsible for facility management as well as planners, consultants, vendors and students.
This session provided an overview of technology applications, cost competitiveness of alternatives and their feasibility for government, campus and other institutional environments. Seasoned industry and government officials provided guidance on what is working and what is not working.
Paul Sheldon, Moderator; Senior Advisor with www.GreenPrisons.org. Paul is an honorary member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Energy Engineers, is the primary author of the American Correctional Association’s Policy and Standard of Environmentally Responsible and Sustainability-Oriented Practices for prisons, jails and community correctional facilities, co-author of the National Institute of Justice’s Greening Corrections Technology Guidebook, of the REEL in Alaska and Fairbanks First Fuel Analysis documenting how to meet institutional needs for electricity using 50% of the current levels of supply, and of the landmark 2009 study, Economic and Energy Alternatives to Coal Plants, published by Natural Capitalism Solutions.

Charlie Slavik, Vice President Marketing and Sales for Solar American Solutions, who has installed solar thermal energy systems on institutional properties including prisons and schools, with positive payback in less than five years.
Doug Young is the Facilities Manager for the Oregon Department of Correctionsand a nationally-recognized authority on the use of geothermal heat in institutional settings, who will present data on Oregon’s successful use of geothermal heat for prisons and schools.
Sean Gallagher is the Superintendent of Schools for the Lake County Oregon School District, which has successfully implemented geothermal heating systems on their institutional properties.
Michael Albert is President of WaterFurnace.com, installers of geothermal ground-source heat pump systems on institutional properties.
