Staff
Edward Saltzberg founded SSF in 2009 drawing on four decades advising the federal government on energy, environmental, and social programs. A former senior executive at Battelle Memorial Institute and SAIC, he holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and is a Visiting Scholar at the Environmental and Energy Management Institute at George Washington University. He consults to tribal governments on energy sovereignty. He also writes The Stability Brief, a publication on U.S. institutional stability and civic responsibility. SSF reflects the professional judgment gained over a career spent in energy, environment, security, and governance.
Alex Beehler co-founded SSF. He is the former Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment, where he oversaw the Army's energy security, environmental compliance, and installation resilience programs across domestic and international facilities. He earlier served as Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health, and held legal and enforcement roles at the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice. He currently advises the Department of Energy on cross-government agency collaboration on environment and advanced energy technologies.
Arturo Herrera keeps SSF’s digital presence current — maintaining the website and managing social media outreach around SSF’s webinar programming. He brings federal agency experience in digital communications, including work with NOAA.
Geetesh Veeravalli is a software engineer who builds and maintains the business applications that run SSF’s operations. As technology evolves, he develops new applications to keep SSF’s systems current and effective.

Founder of The Stella Group, Ltd. and an Adjunct Professor at The George Washington University, where he pioneered the first U.S. course on Renewable Energy and Critical Infrastructure. For over four decades he has advised corporations, utilities, federal agencies, and international bodies on solar, storage, and community energy resilience.
Brings deep distributed energy and grid resilience expertise to SSF's Energy and Security programming.
Spent two decades inside the policy systems that govern climate, energy, and environmental decisions at every level of government. She served as Executive Director of the Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE, formerly NCSE), served as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, and led ICLEI USA directing work with cities and counties on climate and sustainability while also serving as the climate director for ICLEI Global. She now consults on environmental strategy and science-policy integration through Biosphere Strategies.
Brings SSF direct access to where federal, state, and local policy decisions are actually made.
Served as Hungary’s Ambassador to the United States and to NATO, bringing direct experience at the center of transatlantic security and energy diplomacy. A Visiting Scholar at the Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) at George Washington University and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, his career spans NATO expansion, U.S.-European energy relations, and the geopolitics of infrastructure security.

Founder and President of Climate Resilience Consulting, the first U.S. consultancy built exclusively around climate resilience, and co-creator of the Global Adaptation Index (ND-GAIN) at the University of Notre Dame, one of the leading programs measuring country-level climate vulnerability. Her work spans municipal resilience strategy, corporate climate risk, and RIA, a platform bringing professional-grade resilience tools to small and mid-sized communities.

Led the sustainability practice at Battelle as Vice President for Life Cycle Management, co-founded the Center for Resilience at The Ohio State University, gave courses for the Environmental & Energy Management Institute at The George Washington University, and authored Resilient by Design, the foundational text in enterprise resilience. Consulted to major companies, federal agencies, and global organizations on sustainable design, supply chain resilience, and systems thinking.
