As the world’s largest buyer of goods and services — with roughly $750 billion in annual procurement — the U.S. government holds enormous leverage to reduce climate risks in its supply chains and drive emissions reductions across the economy. Two proposed Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) amendments, expected to be finalized in 2024, would require major contractors to report greenhouse gas emissions and set science-based targets, while directing agencies to prioritize products with sustainability ecolabels.
This panel brings together four experts who have shaped federal energy, environmental, and procurement policy to discuss what these changes mean for national security, program delivery, and the future of sustainable federal supply chains.
